Official Statement Regarding Recent FIAS Divisions

Though the ASA is the largest Sambo organization in the United States, we can only speak for our own members with regard to the recent division within FIAS. Such fractures in our sport are distressing and as in any civil war the pressure to chose sides is equally lamentable. We believe civil war is not a viable solution to FIAS's afflictions. Internationally the ASA recognizes FIAS (currently partnered with Sport Accord and presided over by President Vasily Shestakov) as World Governing Body. Domestically, we believe that the ASA has demonstrated it is the most qualified organization to lead US Sambo into the future. However, the US Sambo community is not substantial enough to survive increased fracture. With this in mind, the ASA will continue to support all US Sambo organizations and domestic events with our participation where possible. Most importantly, we will continue our own commitment to building and promoting Sambo in the US as we have done for the past 10 years.

October 5, 2013 - Congratulations letter to USA Sambo, Inc. on their appointment as U.S. member of FIAS

March 7, 2014 - As a result of recent unfortunate events regarding FIAS delegate USA Sambo, Inc. and the Arnold Classic Open Sambo Championships, Joe Neely (tournament director of the Arnold Classic event) has asked that the ASA circulate this letter and request supporting signatures. While this is not an official ASA document, the ASA Exuctive Board does stand behind Mr. Neely in condemnation of recent actions by USA Sambo, Inc. However, only sign and return this document if you agree with the letter. Please scan the signature page and forward to Joe Neely at: jneely@fuse.net  Download the letter here
